Art Reception and Show at the Library

Month of June, Time: Library Hours

Location: Lubec Memorial Library, 55 Water St, Lubec.

Reception on June 13th, 12 - 2 PM.

Growing up in an artistic family, Eric Messin learned how to paint, sculpt and play the classical guitar.  He chose the art of jewelry making as a profession and worked in some of the most prestigious houses of New York, such as Bulgari and Van Cleef and Arpels. He later opened his own jewelry salon in Southampton, NY where he designed one-of-a-kind pieces for a private clientele.

Observing how light travels through gemstones led him to study iconography, using traditional 12th century techniques of egg tempera and gold leaf on wood panels.

Moving to Downeast Maine in 2021 gave him the opportunity to dedicate all of his time to art, whether it is charcoal, watercolor, or egg tempera. His appreciation for the natural beauty of the Bold Coast and its typical New England farmhouse architecture, has given him a limitless source of inspiration. The work in this show highlights Messin's ability to capture natural light at a moment in time. These watercolors have an attention to detail that express the peace and tranquility of our area. They hold stories of the past with a modern take, all in one breath.

Messin's art will be on display at Lubec Memorial Library for the month of June, with a reception held on Saturday June 13, 12-2pm.
