Photography Exhibit: Holly Garner-Jackson
Jan, Time: Library Hours
Location: Lubec Memorial Library, 55 Water St, Lubec
Holly Garner came to Lubec in 1980 to volunteer for a summer studying the whales and seals in the area. Holly's father was in the army and the family travelled throughout the United States as well as Italy.
Lubec was the first place she lived that she felt like she was home. In October she flew back to California and drove her 1963 VW bug cross country and back to Maine. Holly met Peter Jackson, the lighthouse keeper at Head Harbour lighthouse on Campobello Island in 1981. They married in 1983 on Prince Edward Island where Peter had transferred to Panmure Island lighthouse.
Holly and Peter returned to the Lubec area in 1984 and started a picture framing shop in 1987 at their house on the North Lubec road. They moved the shop to Machias in 1988 and added an art gallery, as well as art supplies. Woodwind Custom Framers and Gallery represented many local artists and artisans. They closed the business at the end of 2022.
Holly had always taken photos but credits her husband Peter with showing her the "art of seeing" and capturing things that most people overlook and just walk by.
