Neat Trivia

A finback whale, which was beached and then buried on the beach in 1994, is being excavated with the help of townspeople, and faculty and students from the University of Maine at Machias and the College of the Atlantic. Two students from the SALT Institute for Documentary Studies told the story, ten years apart. Ten years after the beaching, Molly Menschel in 2004's "Just Another Fish Story" interviewed locals for their memories of the beaching and burying; and ten years later, Arielle Zionts in 2014's "Lubec Whale Recovery and Re-articulation Project" brought us up to date on plans for the remains.
